Lighting

Thu Jan 29, 2009, 5:34 PM
  • Mood: Cheerful
  • Listening to: Cold War Kids
  • Reading: Culinary History
  • Watching: Mr. Egg reading a Batman comic
  • Playing: no time for games today
  • Eating: Grilled chicken, spinach, garlic, & pine nuts
  • Drinking: Water, water everywhere!
Over the holidays I took a detour into my local photography store for a sheet of printing prices. Well, they didn't have a sheet I could take with me (bastards) but they had a nice little section of the store displaying different types of studio lighting kits. I would really love to have one. All I want are 3 lights, maybe one or two soft boxes, and an umbrella.

Lighting seems to be my main obstacle when I am shooting food. The lights in my kitchen reflect too yellow and dark at night, the Speedlite flash I have is touchy, and am only getting the good natural light during the day (duh!) when I really need it at night. The editing I usually end up doing is all tone and My solution? Studio lighting. Maybe I can find some used gear on Craigslist.

1. I love to travel. I plan on seeing as many countries I possibly can before I am too old or die. I love road trips and have visited all the Southern states and have driven old Route 66 from Springfield to LA simply because it was Route 66. I have a 3 month "Around the World" trip planned for 2013.

2. I am a native Texas and proud of it. If you have never lived there, you wouldn't understand... It's a Texas thing.

3. I love food. No, really. I mean, I -really- love good food and I am extremely critical of how things are prepared because I know how they should be prepared. I should have been a chef or maybe a food critic.

1/5/09- I actually gave in and enrolled in culinary school and got a job working in the kitchen. So, I am going to be a chef when I grow up. If you are in the Phoenix area and want to eat my food, message me and I will give you the restaurant name.

4. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Painter? Chef? Writer? Clothing designer? Therapist? Travel guide? Professor? Currently, I am a professional student and procrastinator.

5. I adore tennis. I recently picked up my racket after a 15 year hiatus. I have really missed it and could play every day.

6. I am going to live in Italy someday. I don't know how, I don't know when but I know I am going to. Maybe when I write that best selling novel when I grow up?

7. I love my puppy. So that was random but I really do. She is a beautiful 90lb 13 month old German Shepherd. She is such a sweet puppy.

8. I feel weird calling myself an artist because I don't make any money doing it but I have many artistic pursuits and I am studying art history. My best friend (who is actually a real artist) tells me I am but I think she is delusional even if she is a damn good painter. Besides, I may love art but my heart isn't in it enough to make me want to paint everyday.

9. I am told I am "flighty." I think I am a little touched in the head and possibly suffer from ADD. Then again, who doesn't?

10. I am obsessed with Harry Potter Fan Fiction. I don't know how this came to be but it happened and now I have really kinky dreams about Severus Snape. I can't get enough of him. I think it's all the buttons. Why can't men still wear Edwardian Era suits? Why can't women still wear corsets? There is something incredibly delicious about unwrapping someone. I would especially like to unwrap Mr. Snarky-Bat-of-the-Dungeons.

You seem to be an interesting person. You take lovely food photos. I think that if you're going to live in Italy, becoming a chef is a great way to go about it. I wish great fortune on your eventual way there.

Funny story:

When I stopped by, all four of the Random Favorites being displayed were Snape paintings by *Facenna, one of which was erotic.

Well, I thought it was funny, anyway.

Thank you.

I had to go back and look at what paintings you saw. Then I laughed. The one you are talking about happens to be one of my favorites because it is so in your face. :)
